During a recent trip and at the request of a good friend, the staff at GTC visited the Boggy Creek Airboat Adventure in Kissimmee, FL. Airboat rides are good fun and show off the natural beauty of this state while offering the incredible rush of being propelled at high-speeds across a glass-like lake by a 700+ horse-power motor. It is pure adrenaline and, unlike what is found in the theme parks…this is raw entertainment!
I have been on airboats in the past, but they are perceived to be much farther from the main tourist areas than the 15-25 minute drive to the theme parks. In reality, when you consider the drive, the tram to the front gate and then security lines, getting into the theme park from hotel-to-gate could take an hour. The drive from the hotel to Boggy Creek from the tourist areas is about 40-45 minutes or less and is quite a scenic ride.
Boggy Creek has done this up right…it would be easy to conjure up images of arriving at a roadside shack with rickety old airboats awaiting passengers, but not here. Groups (even large groups with multiple coaches) will arrive at a large parking lot off a remote, sleepy road to see a newer, country-like welcome center and restaurant.
To the left of the restaurant is an entrance to the park…yes, a rather spacious park with a gator exhibit, panning for gems exhibit and a BIG surprise…an Indian village with a living, breathing and interactive American-Indian! Little BigMountain is a resident at the attraction and he brings history to life in both informative and humorous ways. With his tattooed face and arms, sun-baked tan and his daily reliance on nature, Little will keep his audience amazed. He is eager to share his ancient culture, tales of the tribes and show your group the survival skills passed down from generation to generation.
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE
In addition to the park is the main reason folks visit here…the airboats. After boarding each 18 passenger boat, your captain will run through his safety announcements and then out into Lake Toho. The 700+ horsepower engine roars and is quieted by the complimentary noise-dampening headphones each person wears. The captain will make some wild maneuvers with the boat showing off both his skills and the capabilities of the vehicle. At points during the ride, the group will slow down and even shut off the engine as the captain points out all sorts of wildlife in the vicinity. The herons, egrets, turtles, pink snails and then, of course, gators. The captain loves to answer questions, so please don’t be shy…the time is even more fun with his answers.
EVENT SPACE GALOR
Now that you know this is no simple roadside stop-off…it is a complex and there is enough to do to keep your group entertained (while covertly educating them). What is more is that they also have several pavilions and when combined with the restaurant, this is a great event place. The sky is the limits and they are willing to package just about anything custom for your group. From simple buffet meals with an airboat ride to a full-on evening of DJ dancing and yard games, Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures has all it takes to show your group was and is today!
